It has been 19 years since the death of the legend Tupac Shakur. On Sunday September 13th, 2015 the hip hop community mourned its fallen icon. Tupac Shakur was a man of many talents, not only was he a rapper but a poet, and author as well. Although Tupac is no longer alive, his music lives on.
The Accomplishments of Tupac Shakur
Tupac Shakur accomplished numerous amounts of achievements through out his life. He was born in New York City on June 16 1971. His interest in rapping and acting began to manifest at a very young age. By November of 1991 Tupac released his first solo album, 2Pacalypse Now. This controversial album spoke out about racism, poverty and many other issues in American society. From 1991 to 1994 Tupac starred in a variety of different movies such as, Nothing But Trouble, Juice, Poetic Justice and Above the Rim. Tupac's second album, Strictly for my N.I.G.G.A.Z... debuted at number 24 on the Billboard 200. It included tracks such as, "I Get Around", and "Keep Ya Head Up'' which provided him with more commercial attention than his previous album. His third album Me Against the World was a significant highlight in his rap career, which was released on March 14 1995 while imprisoned. "Shakur's incarceration hasn't hindered the success of his third solo album,Me Against the World, which has been No. 1 on Billboard magazine's weekly sales chart since Interscope Records released the collection three weeks ago. Boosted by the success of "Dear Mama," which is No. 7 this week on the Billboard singles chart, Me Against the World has sold almost 500,000 copies"-Los Angeles Times, by Jerry Crowe (April 8, 1995).
Tupac's Final album
Tupac's final album, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory also known as, Makaveli was finished in 7 days during the first week in August in 1996. Due to his fatal shooting in September the album was set to release early on the date of November 5th 1996. Makaveli peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200 beating out the Beatles of the number 1 spot and went 3x platinum by 1997. It was also one the highest selling hip hop albums of all time reaching 5 million copies sold in the U.S in 2004.
The Death of Tupac Shakur
On September 13th of 1996 Tupac Shakur passed away from internal bleeding. He was shot in Las Vegas, Nevada 6 days prior to his death. The night of the shooting he was attending MGM Grand for the Mike Tyson vs. Bruce Seldon boxing match.
Tupac was more than just an icon but an inspiration. He used his personal experiences and emotions to tell his story through his music. His lyrics helped guide those during times of detriment and impacted many lives. His influence left a major impact on society and continues to inspire others till this day. Rest in peace Tupac Shakur.
